Telegram Stars are virtual items built into Telegram. They sit in a balance on your account, and you spend them on digital goods in bots and mini apps, paid posts, gifts and donations to creators. This guide covers what Stars do, how to get them, what they cost in the App Store and on Fragment as of September 2026, and how creators cash out.

Telegram launched Stars on June 6, 2024, so that bots and mini apps could sell digital goods and services. The Terms of Service for Telegram Stars have since grown to cover gifts, paid messages and creator rewards.
Stars are not a cryptocurrency. They are virtual items kept in a personal balance on your account, and the terms don't let you sell, withdraw or transfer the ones you bought. Telegram built them to comply with Apple and Google rules for selling digital products, which is why a game inside Telegram can charge you through a normal in-app purchase.
A small star icon next to someone's name is most often the Telegram Premium badge, which marks a Premium subscriber. It says nothing about their Stars balance. Profiles can also show a separate numbered rating that grows with the user's Stars spending on gifts, paid messages and suggested posts.

On iPhone and on the Google Play version of Android, this is a regular in-app purchase. The direct-download version of Telegram for Android, Telegram Web and Telegram Desktop sell Stars through @PremiumBot instead. If you run short while paying a bot, the app offers a top-up on the spot.
Fragment is a platform built on the TON blockchain that sells Stars, Telegram Premium and collectible usernames. Telegram also routes creator payouts through it. You enter a Telegram username, choose any amount from 50 to 10,000,000 Stars and pay from your own crypto wallet: GRAM (formerly TON), USDT on the ETH, TON or POL networks, or USDC on ETH, Base or POL. GRAM is the native coin of the TON blockchain. Older Telegram announcements call it Toncoin. Read how to buy Telegram Stars on Fragment for a full walkthrough.
A friend can buy Stars for you (see how gifting works below), and channels can give Stars away in giveaways.
Third-party stores sell Stars and deliver them to your @username. Some accept crypto or other methods the app stores don't. They are not part of Telegram, so check who runs the store, whether it asks only for your username and how to reach its support.
The table shows what the US App Store listing and Fragment displayed on September 23, 2026.
| Package | App Store (US) | Fragment |
|---|---|---|
| 50 Stars | not listed | $0.75 |
| 100 Stars | $1.99 | $1.50 |
| 250 Stars | $5.09 | $3.75 |
| 500 Stars | $9.99 | $7.50 |
| 1,000 Stars | $19.99 | $15.00 |
| 2,500 Stars | $50.90 | $37.50 |
| 10,000 Stars | not listed | $150.00 |
A Star has no single value. What a buyer pays and what a creator receives are set separately, and Telegram states that its payout value has no connection to the purchase price in any region.
$0.015 per Star when buying on Fragment
About $0.02 per Star when buying 1,000 in the US App Store
$0.013 per Star paid out to creators and developers
$0.02 per Star as Telegram Ads credit
At these list prices, Stars cost less on Fragment than in the US App Store, and a creator's Star is worth more as ad credit for their own channel or bot than as a cash payout.

Answers about buying Telegram Stars with crypto.
Yes, you can receive Stars without buying them. Some mini apps run affiliate programs that pay Stars when you share them with friends. If you turn on paid messages, you keep 85% of what others pay to message you. You can also win Stars in channel and group giveaways or convert a Telegram gift you received into Stars.
Stars aren't available everywhere. Telegram hides Star purchases in regions where local laws or regulations don't allow them. Some third-party Telegram apps don't support Stars at all, so try the Telegram app from the App Store or Google Play. If a payment is declined, contact Apple or Google: Telegram doesn't process these transactions itself.
Telegram treats Star purchases as final and doesn't refund unwanted or accidental buys. If a bot or mini app fails to deliver what you paid for, send it the /paysupport command, since the developer can return your Stars. If they refuse a legitimate claim, copy the transaction ID from your Stars history and report it to Telegram.
No. Under the Stars terms, Stars on your personal balance can't be sold, withdrawn or transferred. You can only spend them on goods, content, gifts and donations. Cashing out works only for Stars earned by a bot or channel you own. Offers to buy your personal Stars break those terms, and Telegram can debit Stars from accounts that violate them.
The Stars terms set no expiry date for Stars you buy. You lose them if your account is deleted or banned, including automatic deletion after 18 months offline (the default setting), or if Telegram debits them after a refund or a rule violation. Stars a channel earns are different: the owner has three years from receiving them to use them or take a payout.
You can use Stars to give Premium to someone else, because Telegram sells gift Premium subscriptions for Stars. Your own subscription is normally paid through the App Store, Google Play or @PremiumBot, and Fragment also sells Premium for crypto. See what Telegram Premium includes before deciding whether it's worth it.
